Can I use Be My Eyes on Windows Desktop with screen readers like JAWS or NVDA?
Be My Eyes on Windows Desktop has been tested with screen readers including JAWS and NVDA. Our goal is for the app to be fully accessible for screen readers, but since this is only a beta version, users might encounter obstacles.
Can I call a volunteer or a group from Be My Eyes on Windows Desktop?
No. In this beta version of Be My Eyes on Windows Desktop, it is not possible to make any video calls. We consider including this feature in a later update.
Can I use the Service Directory on Be My Eyes on Windows Desktop?
No. Service Directory and all other functions that require video calls are currently not available in this beta version of Be My Eyes on Windows Desktop. We consider including this feature in a later update.
How do I log into Be My Eyes on Windows Desktop?
Be My Eyes on Windows Desktop supports the same login methods as the mobile app. If you already have an account, select either sign-in with Facebook, Google, Apple or log-in with email.
If you use an email-based account, but have forgotten your password, select “Log-in with email” and then “Forgot password”, to receive a password reset email.
How do I make an account with Be My Eyes on Windows Desktop?
After downloading, launch Be My Eyes on your desktop computer to sign up. The app will take you through a short 6-step registration process:
- Select to “Sign up with email” to sign up as a blind or low-vision user.
- Enter your first name, last name, email address and password.
- Click the “Sign up” button.
- Wait for the verification email to arrive. Click the link in the email.
- Go back to the app and click “OK, I clicked the link”.
- Accept privacy and Terms.
You are now ready to use Be My Eyes on your Windows Desktop
How do I update the Be My Eyes app on Windows Desktop?
Updates are delivered through the Microsoft Store.
- Open the Microsoft Store
- Open the "Library" tab
- Press the "Get updates" button. The update will start to be downloaded and installed.
Note that this can take a while as the Microsoft Store is quite slow. You can look through the list of apps and find Be My Eyes to see if the update is still pending, or has completed. (Tip: If you're using a screen reader, it is useful to tab to Sort and Filter and select "Sort by name". If you leave this on "Sort by day" (the default), the list of apps will move around a bunch while things are updating)
You can turn on automatic updates by going to the Profile menu, choose "Settings" and then make sure "App updates" is turned on.
How do I copy the text description from Be My AI?
To copy in Be My Eyes on Windows Desktop focus on the message you want to copy. Press CTRL + C to copy the full message to your clipboard.
You can also open the context menu using the keyboard "Menu" button or Shift + F10, and select "Copy text to clipboard."
Can I use Be My AI without an internet connection?
No. You need an internet connection to access Be My AI. An unstable internet connection can cause delays in the answers received by Be My AI and can lead to longer waiting times to get a response. If you experience unusual slow downs, try to switch between Wi-Fi and your mobile internet connection.
Can I send more than one photo in the same chat to Be My AI on Windows Desktop?
No. It is currently not possible to add more photos in a Be My AI chat on Windows Desktop. You can start a new chat with a new image instead.
How do I share files from external sources (Safari, Facebook etc.) to Be My AI?
No. However it is possible to have Be My AI describe the image you hold in the clipboard using the “Describe clipboard” function.
Copy the image you want described to your clipboard, go to the Be My Eyes app on your desktop and click the “Describe clipboard” button.
Will Be My Eyes be available on Apple Mac Computers as well?
We are not currently working on a Mac version of Be My Eyes. But we are aware of our community's request for this feature.
