The first time you use the Be My Eyes Agent App, please read the following article and follow the recommendations to ensure you are properly set up to receive incoming calls.
Firstly, please note that we only officially support recent versions of the Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge browsers. Although Firefox and Safari may work, you might encounter issues which will be hard for us to debug, so if possible please use a supported browser.
Secondly, please note that in order to hear the ringtone for an incoming call, the Be My Eyes Agent app must be open in your browser, and the Ringtone option must be enabled.
The ringtone can only play while the Agent app is open. You can keep the Agent app tab in the background, it does not need to be in focus. If the app is not open and a call comes in, you will see a native notification, but these are silent and cannot play the ringtone even if it is enabled.
There are two settings you also need to manually set in your browser to make sure that you receive calls and the ringtone plays:
1. Ensure your browser will not suspend the Agent App tab
Web browsers will, at times, suspend or "sleep" tabs that are not being actively used, in order to save resources.
To prevent this from happening, follow the instructions below for the browser you are using.
Microsoft Edge
1. In Microsoft Edge, select "Settings and more" > "Settings" > "System and performance" .
2. Next to "Never put these sites to sleep", select "Add", type in https://app.bemyeyes.com, and then press Add.
Google Chrome
1. In Google Chrome, from the profile menu select "Settings" > "Performance".
2. Under "General" > "Always keep these sites active", select "Add" > "Add sites manually", type in bemyeyes.com, and then press Add.
2. Ensure your browser will allow the ringtone to play
By default, browsers may prevent web apps from playing audio until a user interaction occurs.
To prevent this from happening, follow the instructions below for the browser you are using.
Microsoft Edge
1. In Microsoft Edge, select "Settings and more" > "Settings" > "Cookies and site permissions" .
2. Find "Media autoplay" in the list of permissions and click it.
3. Under "Allow", click "Add", type in bemyeyes.com and press "Save".
Google Chrome
1. In Google Chrome, from the profile menu select "Settings" > "Privacy and security".
2. Under "Privacy and security", press "Site settings"
3. Under "Content", expand "Additional content settings" and find "Sound"
4. Under "Sound" > "Allowed to play sound", click "Add", type in bemyeyes.com, and then press Add.
3. Test notification delivery
Open the Be My Eyes Agent App. Press the profile icon to open the profile menu. Press the button labeled "Send test notification".
You should see a native notification popup:
4. Confirm the ringtone is enabled
Open the Be My Eyes Agent App. Press the profile icon to open the profile menu. Make sure the checkbox next to "Use ringtone" is checked.
5. Test ringtone playback
Open the Be My Eyes Agent App. Press the profile icon to open the profile menu. Press the button labeled "Play test sound".
You should hear the ringtone playing. If not, please check your computer audio settings are correct.
