If you've signed up as a volunteer but aren't getting any calls, here are the most common reasons and how to fix them.
1. Notifications are turned off
Be My Eyes can only reach you when notifications are enabled. Check:
- iOS: Settings → Notifications → Be My Eyes → Allow Notifications (turn on)
- Android: Settings → Apps → Be My Eyes → Notifications (turn on)
- In-app: Profile → Notification Settings — make sure "Receive calls" is enabled.
2. Low call volume in your language/time zone
Be My Eyes matches callers with volunteers who share a language. If you've selected a less common language, or you're awake during off-peak hours, call volume will naturally be lower. English volunteers typically receive the most calls.
3. Background app restrictions
Some phones aggressively restrict background apps and notifications. Make sure Be My Eyes is excluded from battery optimization:
- Android: Settings → Battery → Battery Optimization → find Be My Eyes → set to "Don't optimize".
- iOS: Background App Refresh should be enabled for Be My Eyes.
4. Do Not Disturb mode is active
If Do Not Disturb is on, Be My Eyes calls won't come through. Add Be My Eyes to your DND exceptions list, or disable DND while volunteering.
5. Your account is inactive
Volunteer accounts that have had no activity for 12 months are automatically deactivated. If this might apply to you, see How to Reactivate an Inactive Account.
