Be My Eyes for Mac needs certain macOS permissions to describe your screen, to use your camera, and in Workplace, to share and control your screen. You can review and change these any time from the app’s Settings → Permissions screen, which lists each permission and its current status.
The permissions
| Permission | What it lets Be My Eyes do |
|---|---|
| Camera | Take a picture with your webcam to be described |
| Microphone | Speak on calls |
| Screen Recording | Capture and describe your screen (Describe screen; and, in Workplace, screen sharing) |
| Input Monitoring | Make the app’s global keyboard shortcuts work |
| Accessibility | Allow a Workplace agent to control your screen during remote control |
Grant or change a permission
- In Be My Eyes, open Settings → Permissions.
- Find the permission you want and select Open Settings. This takes you to the matching pane in macOS System Settings.
- Turn the toggle on (or off) for Be My Eyes. You may need to enter your Mac password.
If a permission dialog is hard to reach with VoiceOver
When macOS prompts you to approve a permission, focus can stay on the app behind the dialog. If that happens, press Control + Option + F2 twice to shift VoiceOver focus to the permission dialog.
Workplace permissions
Be My Eyes Workplace feature. Available on an enterprise plan. How do I get this?
Screen sharing and remote control in Be My Eyes Workplace rely on Screen Recording and Accessibility. If an agent can’t see or control your screen, check that both are enabled here.
