Be My Eyes on Ray-Ban Meta Glasses is now available to all iOS and Android users in US, Canada, UK, Ireland, and Australia.
The following text is also available as an audio guide. To listen, you can Click here for the 'Unboxing your Ray-Ban Meta Glasses' audio guide.
To open the box, you’ll need to remove the tear strip along the side by pulling on the small tab which is on the long edge of the box with a perforated seam.
Once you have removed the tear strip, push the box open and remove the glasses case. The box contains several small documents and a cleaning cloth. These are located in a rectangular panel above the case and can be tactilely identified by two semi-circular edges on the sides.
Although a fairly standard shape, the glasses case is somewhat different to most as it charges your glasses when they are in it. It has a magnetic clasp on the front flap, and for those with low vision, you may also notice that the flap has a small, pinky sized circular cutout with an LED light which indicates the battery level of the glasses case.
Now lift the flap up near the clasp to open the case and remove the glasses. There should be a small plastic film located between the folded arms and the glasses frame underneath the nose bridge. Don’t worry if you can’t find it as it does sometimes fall out. It is simply there during shipping, so if it is you should remove it and just throw it away.
Now let’s take a quick spin around the glasses, the glasses case, and the various controls.
Let's start with the glasses case
Following the central line down from the clasp you will find a USB-C charging port located towards the bottom of the case. You can use any standard USB-C cable to charge your glasses.
Continuing down that same imaginary center line, around to the back of the case, you will find the pairing button which is located about half an inch or 1 cm from the charging port towards the bottom of the case. It is slightly embossed, and tactile when pressed. The pairing button is used to pair the glasses with a smartphone when they are in the case.
Now let’s move to the glasses themselves
The On/Off switch is located on the left arm of the glasses on the inside of the frame and close to the glasses hinge. It is a slider switch which turns the glasses on when pushed towards the lens and switches them off when pushed away from the lens.
On the top of the right hand arm, and towards the lens, you’ll find the capture button. This is the button that starts a video recording or takes a picture. By double-clicking, it is also used to switch the camera from glasses to phone during a Be My Eyes call.
Also on the right hand side of the arm is the touchpad area, which serves a number of functions. Although not tactilely identifiable, this area runs from the edge of the logo on the outside of the arm near the lens frame backwards to the ear ridge; a distance of about 1.5 inches or 4 centimetres.
The camera is on the front of the glasses frame, on the left hand side, at the top corner. It is a small circle and has a ridge.
In the same position but on the right hand side is the ‘capture LED signal’ which will blink white when the camera is in use, for example when a video is being recorded, a photo is being taken, or a call with a Be My Eyes volunteer is active.
You are now ready to set up and configure your glasses! Learn how to do that in the next section.
